Transforming a School Garden: Tree Pruning, Willow Dome Care & Raised Bed Repairs

At J.H.E Tree Services, we recently completed a rewarding project at a local primary school, where we helped revitalise their outdoor learning and garden area. This project is a great example of how expert tree care and grounds maintenance can transform a school garden into a safe, engaging space for children to learn and explore.

Improving Light for Raised Beds and Garden Growth

​One of the main goals of this project was to increase sunlight exposure to the school’s raised beds for planting. We carried out tree reduction work, carefully cutting back overhanging branches to allow more natural light to reach the planting area. This is a crucial step in supporting healthy plant growth and creating an inviting environment for outdoor education.

Willow Dome Pruning and Hedge Trimming

​The garden featured a large willow dome, which had become very overgrown. Our team conducted a careful willow dome pruning, shaping and managing the structure to keep it safe, tidy, and accessible for the children to use. We also completed hedge trimming throughout the area to improve visibility, access, and overall appearance.

Raised Bed Repairs with New Sleepers

​Safety and sustainability are at the heart of everything we do. During our assessment, we discovered two rotten sleepers in one of the raised garden beds. These were replaced with new timber sleepers to ensure the structure remained stable and secure for students to plant and interact with.

Fresh Woodchip for Paths and Play Areas

​To finish the job, we applied fresh woodchip mulch to the garden paths, borders, and underneath the willow dome. Not only does this improve the look of the space, but it also helps with weed suppression, improves drainage, and provides a safer, softer surface for children to walk and play on.
